so I was worried that the 339-sized body would feel and sound too small-at least in a hollowbody guitar. The size was a 'concern' because I'm used to full-sized 335-style guitars, other large archtops, and acoustics. I don't see any reason to swap them out.Īside from the pickups, there were two other things I was hesitant about when looking at the Casino Coupe: the size of the guitar and the pau ferro fretboard. I'm sure the P90's in this guitar aren't the highest quality, but since I'm still relatively unfamiliar with the P90 sounds, I don't really know the difference-and these sound plenty good enough to me. In other words, clear and articulate with some warmth or almost a compressed sound-not necessarily a bright, biting single-coil tone. As a long-time Strat player, I'm especially fond of the sound of a Strat neck pickup, and the sounds of positions 2 and 4. I play mostly clean and tend to prefer the sound of single-coils. I'm not sure why, because I really like the tone of P90's. but this is only the second one I've ever owned with P90's. I always like to have a really good idea of what I'm getting into if it's a model I haven't owned before.Īs my history above shows, I'm a big fan of Epiphone archtops.

When I had a chance to trade for this, I did my usual obsessive research-reading as much as I could about it, and watching as many YouTube videos as I could find.
